Chlorine gas alarm in the summer swimming pool in Neukölln! Chlorine gas had escaped in a technical room late on Friday evening. A large-scale operation by the fire brigade ensued.
The fire brigade was alerted in the evening at around 9:27 p.m. by the automatic alarm system for the Neukölln summer swimming pool at Columbiadamm 160. The emergency services deployed with 49 firefighters, including 35 specialists with special vehicles. Two of the firefighters, wearing heavy chemical protection suits, checked the technical room for a leak.
According to BZ information, the containers were only exchanged the day before. This is probably where the leak came from. The automatic emergency locking of the barrels prevented a major escape of gas.
The fire brigade took measurements, but could no longer detect any dangerous concentration with their devices around midnight and handed the system over to the operator. The operation ended at 1:01 a.m.
The Columbiadamm was temporarily closed due to the operation.
The Berlin pool companies could not be reached for a statement on Saturday, the summer pool was open as normal.
