A chlorine accident occurred in a hotel pool in Mallorca on Monday afternoon. 26 people have suffered poisoning. The injured complained of itching, vomiting, respiratory problems and a burning sensation in the eyes.

Ten guests at the hotel in Port d’Alcúdia in the north of the island were taken to hospitals for treatment, including three children. The newspaper reported “Diario de Mallorca“ on Tuesday, citing the Samu emergency service. A seven-year-old was said to have been seriously injured.

The condition of the patients treated in the hospital is stable, said a spokesman for the Hospital Son Espases in Palma de Mallorca. A Samu spokesman for the German Press Agency said there were no German tourists among those who were more severely affected.

According to the hotel management, a technical problem with the chlorine supply is suspected to be the cause of the accident. The investigations indicate that a fault in the dosing device is the cause of the chlorine accident.

The hotel pool was temporarily closed and reopened after about two hours when the chlorine level was back to normal.
