The chip shortages led to Volkswagen losing market share in China and Latin America last year. This year, Diess thinks he will be able to build more cars than in 2021. He also hopes to be able to meet all demand again next year. This should be possible, among other things, because Volkswagen has invested in ways to get chips faster, such as expanding capacity and direct agreements with manufacturers.
VW also announced that it is looking into setting up a European company for production systems for batteries for electric cars together with car parts producer Bosch. The goal is to set up that company this year.
