CHIO in Aachen: Eventing: Jung subsequently punished, Auffarth wins

Status: 02.07.2022 2:57 p.m

After the eventing competition at the CHIO, Michael Jung could only be happy about first place for a short time. He subsequently received penalty points, so victory went to Sandra Auffarth.

Jung was initially six points ahead of Auffarth with Viamant du Matz and the three-time team Olympic champion Andrew Hoy (Australia) with Vassily de Lassos on Saturday (July 2nd, 2022) with his top horse Chipmunk. But the judges were still debating whether Jung and his 14-year-old gelding, Chipmunk, might have had a byer at the 14th fence. “I have a feeling it was good, we were just over it”said Jung in the WDR.

Later, however, the judges judged a violation, so that Jung fell back to eighth place in the classification.

Great Britain measure of all things – Klimke with void result

In the team classification, Germany finished second, well behind last year’s winner, Great Britain. The discarded result was delivered by the European Champion Ingrid Klimke (Münster), of all people, whose mare Siena just do it had a by-runner and thus fell far behind in time.

Best team rider was Auffarth with Viamant du Matz ahead of Olympic champion Julia Krajewski (Warendorf) with Amande de B’Neville and Jung with his young horse Kilcandra Ocean Power.

Allstar Injury: Stallion no longer touches down his front leg

The cross-country ride was overshadowed by an injury to Allstar, World Champion Rosalind Canter (Great Britain).

The 17-year-old stallion lost his left front leg after a jump. There hadn’t been a fall, possibly Allstar’s leg had hit an obstacle.
