Chinese students celebrate their graduation from TH Lübeck

21 students successfully passed their exams in Environmental Engineering, 31 in Information Technology. Since the winter semester 2004/2005, the TH Lübeck and the East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) in Shanghai together the English-language courses Environmental Engineering (environmental engineering) and Information Technologies (Information Technology) by. To date, around 60 Chinese students achieve their double degree in the two courses offered every year. This year, for the first time, student LI Ziyue was recognized as the best graduate in her Information Technology course.

Brave, curious and adventurous

“They made a great effort, invested a lot of time standing here and enjoyed the high level of education at the TH Lübeck,” says the Vice Dean of the International Elite Engineering School ECUST, Prof. HUANG Guangtuan. The President of the TH Lübeck, Dr. Muriel Helbig thanks the deputies of ECUST for the many years of cooperation in the study program and emphasizes how important it is for the university to cultivate international cooperation. “I would like to congratulate the students on making their way to Lübeck and spending their time here in such a courageous, curious and adventurous manner.”

Contrasts between Shanghai and Lübeck

The graduate WANG Xinyuan spoke on behalf of the graduates of the Environmental Engineering degree program: “The last 16 months have been an incredible journey for me – filled with personal growth and many exciting moments.” The best graduate of the year LI Ziyue addresses the guests present and states: “When we arrived in Lübeck, we were full of anticipation to explore this small city, which represents a great contrast to the metropolis Shanghai. No skyscrapers, no subways and even the supermarkets are closed on Sundays!” The graduate thanks the universities, professors, the China Coordinator at TH Lübeck and China Buddies, who helped her in everyday life and became friends. She ends her speech with a line from a Chinese poem. “We humans, too, experience journeys and changes in our lives, just as the sun and moon travel through the sky.”

After the certificates have been awarded by the dean of the department Applied SciencesProf. Manfred Rößle and the Dean of the department electrical engineering and computer science, Prof. Andreas Schäfer, the students and guests present exchanged ideas over drinks and appetizers. The celebration was musically accompanied by Lady Lu, a live loop artist of the Music Academy in Lübeck.
