“Sjoerd, you are close to the stadium, what is China going to show in the coming hours?”, he was asked via a live connection with the studio in the Netherlands.
Dutch correspondent pushed away
Sjoerd was standing near the stadium in Beijing where the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games takes place. He was about to answer the question, but then a Chinese security guard approached him and pulled him out of the picture. Sjoerd tried to start a conversation with the man in Chinese, but to no avail.
Already moved from another area
“We are, as you can see, pulled away. We’ve just been evicted from another area, so I’m afraid we’ll have to come back later,” Sjoerd explained while the camera continued to roll for a while.
Response NOS
The NOS has now announced on Twitter: “Unfortunately, this is increasingly becoming the daily reality for journalists in China. Sjoerd is fine and luckily was able to finish his story a few minutes later.”
