Chinese President congratulates British King Charles

Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated King Charles on his official appointment. According to the Chinese state news agency Xinhua, the message for London says that Xi is ready to work with the monarch.

The cooperation should enhance “mutual understanding” and “friendship” between the British and Chinese, as well as communication on global issues. Relations between the United Kingdom and China have deteriorated over the past decade. The newly-appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss presents himself as a major critic of the Asian country.

The Chinese president also wrote in his message that this year will mark the 50th anniversary of the two countries establishing diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level. He spoke of a “great loss” for the British people after Queen Elizabeth’s death on Thursday. Elizabeth was the first British monarch to visit China.
