The municipality of Assen has made a tenth purchase for the Asser city collection. This is the painting ‘Staring at the Starry Night’ by the Chinese artist Lu Xinjian.
The painting shows a color portrait of Vincent van Gogh. The painting was offered to the municipality by the Campis Foundation, which had it in storage after Lu Xinjian’s opening exhibition in 2021.
“We are proud that Van Gogh found his inspiration in Drenthe and that the Drents Museum has developed an exhibition about this time. We want to emphasize this by purchasing the painting by Lu Xinjian,” says councilor Bert Jan ten Oever. “The painting will be visible to everyone in the window of the town hall during the Van Gogh year.”
After the Van Gogh Year, the painting will become part of the city collection and will have a permanent place that has yet to be determined.
