Chinese leader wants to work with North Korea for ‘world peace’ | Abroad

China wants to work with North Korea to bring about regional and global stability, prosperity and peace. Chinese President Xi Jinping writes that in a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, state news agency KCNA reports.

KCNA did not comment on North Korea’s numerous recent missile launches that have recently heightened tensions in the area. The regime in Pyongyang spoke aggressively after joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States.

The Stalinist-ruled and cut off North Korea is economically almost completely dependent on China. The United States earlier this month accused Beijing and Moscow of protecting Pyongyang from more severe sanctions. In May, a veto by China and Russia prevented further US sanctions against the North Koreans.

Chinese President Xi had a long talk with his US counterpart Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali last week. He said he is convinced that Beijing does not want North Korea to continue to increase tensions in the region.
