The Chinese branch of the American fast food chain KFC has started to sell more parts of the chicken because of the more expensive ingredients. This is what the Chinese KFC operator Yum China says to news channel CNN. Due to the sky-high inflation, chicken feet are now also on the menu, for example.
The expanded menu has everything to do with high inflation. In the past year, among other things, the prices of oil and food, such as chickens, have risen sharply. As a result, making fast food, for example, has only become more expensive.
“We are now trying to compensate for the higher prices by using a larger portion of the chicken,” Yum China boss Joey Wat told cnn. He refers to, among other things, chicken feet and tips of the wings. “Actually, we now use everything from the chicken, except for the wings”.
By selling more cuts of the chicken, the chain has also fulfilled a wish from local KFC customers, coincidentally or not. Chicken feet are a Chinese delicacy and something that KFC goers in China often ask for, according to Wat.
