The president of the Chinese car manufacturer CheryTongyue Yin, will hold meetings tomorrow, Monday, with the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, and prominent members of the Catalan business world to explore the possibilities of establishing a factory in Catalonia.
Chery considers disembarking in Europe with its electric vehicles and at the end of October he showed his interest in the land abandoned by the multinational Nissan in Barcelona, although he did so with their reindustrialization about to complete and his proposal was not taken into account.

Yin arrives in the Catalan capital with a busy schedule in which his interview with Aragonès and the Minister of Business and Labor, Roger Torrent, stands out, a first contact at an institutional level, which will be followed by another with technicians from the Generalitat to learn more about Chery’s land and asset needs and its business plan.
Sources from the Generalitat have pointed out the interest of the Catalan administration in maintaining the contacts that are carried out with the Chinese company in an environment of “discretion” to protect the progress of the work and thus contribute to its reaching a successful port.
In addition to this meeting at the highest level with the Generalitat, the president of Chery will hold a meeting tomorrow with the president of Foment del Treball, Josep Sánchez Llibre, and the president of the metal employers’ association UPM, Jaume Roura, at the headquarters of the Catalan employer.
During this meeting, Chery, Fomenty and UPM will sign a collaboration agreement.
1,500 jobs
Industry sources have pointed out that the Chinese manufacturer could make about 300,000 cars a year in the plant that they plan for Europe, which would mean the creation of some 1,500 jobs.

In September 2010, the then president of the Generalitat, José Montilla, already had contacts with Chery to analyze the feasibility of the project to install a car plant in Catalonia, but the project never came to fruition.
On that occasion, the Catalan government was the one that took the first step and approached the Asian group, while now it is the car manufacturer that has shown interest.
