A tragic day in Safari Park Beekse Bergen. Chimpanzee Stephan died there on Friday. After a fight with one of the other monkeys, the animal ended up in a canal. There he drowned.
A spokesperson for the park tells the website loopings that it was restless in the monkey enclosure. During that conflict, the West African chimpanzee would have fallen into the water. “To our great sadness, he did not survive.”
Stephen turned 14 years old. The spokesperson added that the other six males and eight females in the enclosure are being closely monitored for the time being.
