Chile will have to wait to have a new Constitution that replaces the foundations inherited from the last military dictatorship. The option “Rejection” of the Magna Carta prepared by a joint convention over a year obtains 62.55% of the votes when almost 48% of the electoral register was counted. The alternative “I approve” has stagnated at 37.45%. With the advancement of counting, especially in large urban areas, it is possible that this distance will be reduced. But if the initial results are confirmed, a scenario not expected by any political analyst opens up. The result is not only irremountable: it is a true political earthquake. The Government of President Gabriel Boric is one of the losers of this consultation. The verdict of the polls has not surprised him and, for this reason, for weeks he began to advocate for the realization of a new constituent process. The right has celebrated in advance. The social outbreak of 2019 had eroded his political and electoral capital. With the vote this Sunday, the scenario changes again.
