Children’s council in Assen must stay: ‘Adults think in terms of problems and we in solutions’

The children’s council is for primary school children and the municipal council is really for adults, so there is a gap in between. What will the municipality of Assen do with that group that falls between two stools?

“In the past we also had a youth council, but that did not take place. In the council we are now thinking about what we can do for that group, say 12 to 21. I don’t think that should be in the form of a council, but more with concrete topics. I hope we can tell more about this in the autumn,” says Out.

For the past four years, the children’s council has been paid from temporary funds. In order to have a children’s council in the city every year, the council recommends that the finances for this be structurally included in the budget. This concerns an amount of 17,500 euros per year.

If the council agrees to the proposal on July 6, a children’s council and children’s mayor will be installed again in September 2023.
