Children’s Council Assen receives support from the ‘real’ council: ‘Save our Deer Camp’

Politics Assen supports the Children’s Council in its fight to preserve the 180-year-old deer park for the city. The youth believe that this beautiful place, where animals can be petted, should not disappear.

A motion by VVD, Assen Centraal, ChristenUnie, SP, 50PLUS and Lijst de Rijke – to advocate for the deer park in The Hague – was supported by all parties in the city council tonight, except GroenLinks.

The parties believe that the deer park on Nassaulaan should not disappear. The deer stable is a national monument and the animal pasture is located in the protected cityscape. Assen’s deer park is the oldest in the province.

It is a place where many parents and children have been going for 180 years to feed and pet the animals. According to the council factions, the welfare of the animals is in excellent order and there are no dangerous situations with the fallow deer. They will convey that message to the national political parties, as they promised to the children’s council.

Fallow deer will be removed from the national hobby and pet list by the Ministry of Agriculture next July. They are not suitable for keeping in deer parks as they are said to be dangerous. That is why the government no longer allows fallow deer to be bred. In the long run, this will be the death knell for deer parks, including the one in Assen.
