The work on the N243 near Schermerhorn is almost complete. Contractor Boskalis therefore thought it would be a good idea to have the students of primary school De Bonte Mol from Schermerhorn cover the first meters on the new asphalt. Earlier this week, the children showed up en masse with go-karts, bicycles, rollerblades and scooters.
The students present were given an assignment: scattered across the road were ‘big people’ with letters to be found. When all the letters were found, a word had to be formed. That word turned out to be “moles.” “We are at school at De Bonte Mol, so that makes sense,” one of the enthusiastic participants tells media partner Alkmaar Central.
“It’s just new, so it drives well!”, it sounds from the N243. Hugo in particular proudly drives around on his over-complete go-kart, which includes an impressive horn: “It has a horn, flashing lights and a gearbox!”
Six roundabouts
Project leader for the province Stef Bakker is also proud: “The road was in desperate need of major maintenance and also had to be made safer. The most important measure is therefore the installation of six roundabouts, two of which are here at Schermerhorn”. According to Bakker, the work is well on schedule and the road will be reopened on Monday 5 December.
Nevertheless, the project is not yet finished, the Middenweg will also be closed soon: “In the course of January we will start again and then we will go to the Middenweg, but the route at Schermerhorn will remain open.” The work on the N243 will be carried out in parts and will continue until the end of 2023.
