The school is located right in the center. According to many parents, the intersection next to it is too dangerous. There are also few to no cycle paths. Unlike other schools in Lauwe, there is no bicycle street or additional lighting of the zebra crossings. That is why parents feel compelled to take their children to school by car, which increases the number of cars around the school.
The school has already consulted with the competent alderman to express their concerns, “but to date no concrete actions or plans have emerged,” it said. “The Village Square will soon be redeveloped, a unique opportunity to structurally improve road safety around the school. But unfortunately this is not reflected in the plans. We find it incomprehensible.”
The school and parents request clear road markings on the streets around the intersection, colored fences to separate the sidewalk from the road, a lighted zebra crossing and sufficient attention to parking spaces in the school area.
