Children exploring Poperinge’s MaakBib

In a library you will find more than books. In De Letterbeek in Poperinge, children are learning how to pimp T-shirts today, thanks to the MaakBib. They become acquainted with all kinds of things related to science and technology. Also called STEM academies.

Impact career choice

Research shows that STEM academies have an impact on later career choices. They clearly inspire young people, because there is great interest in West Flanders. “There is a STEM academy in every municipality. We are really the best at that as far as the Maakbibs are concerned,” says Flemish Member of Parliament Loes Vandromme.

The Flemish government is also making a great effort to put STEM in the spotlight even more. This can be done through education, but also in young people’s free time.
