Childminders only got their own status in 2003, so that the years they worked before that time do not count for the pension calculation and they were not eligible for a minimum pension.
From now on, the years after 2003 count more heavily in the pension calculation, so that those childminders will still receive a better pension. In concrete terms, the years worked after 2003 are multiplied by a coefficient.
“Childminders play an important role in our society,” says CD&V Member of Parliament and initiator Nahima Lanjri. “They ensure that parents can combine their family and work. Childcare also contributes to the emotional, motor and cognitive skills of children. They therefore deserve our appreciation and support.”
