A four-year-old child was killed in an accident on the Oude Bredasebaan in Chaam on Saturday afternoon. Two other young children and the driver of the car were seriously injured. The car left the road for unknown reasons and crashed into a tree.
Several ambulances and the fire brigade came to the scene of the accident. Two air ambulances were also called in. Rescuers tried to resuscitate the four-year-old child, but the child died on the spot.
According to a police spokesperson, two more were seriously injured and it looks ‘serious’. One of the injured was taken to hospital by air ambulance.
Accident investigation
It is unclear what caused the car to leave the road. The accident happened around five o’clock. Police traffic specialists are investigating the cause of the accident. “To the best of our knowledge, it was a single-vehicle accident, with no other vehicle involved,” said a police spokesman.
