Chief designer Walter Chiapponi announces resignation

The Italian fashion group Tod’s SpA has to look for a new chief designer for its core brand. On Wednesday, the company announced that Walter Chiapponi would step down as creative director of the Tod’s label “by mutual consent.” The specialist magazine Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) had previously reported on the decision. The fashion house wants to announce the successor plan “in the coming months”.

Chiapponi has headed the creative team at Tod’s since 2019 and has been defining the creative signature of the women’s and men’s collections ever since. According to the company, he will present his last designs for the brand on September 22: Then the women’s collection for the spring/summer 2024 season will be presented as part of Milan Fashion Week.

Diego della Valle, the CEO and Chairman of the Tod’s Group, paid tribute to the outgoing chief designer: “We thank Walter for the path we have walked together,” he said in a statement. “Just like Walter, we will have fond memories of this experience.”
