Chicory for charity: De Goorn church sells one shrub after another ‘with love’

The sale started this afternoon and the chicory bushes immediately flew over the counter. “Everyone reacts very enthusiastically and they think it’s a fun idea,” says Harry Feld of the working group of the Catholic Church De Goorn.

There are annual celebrations in the church with stories, thoughts and poems, but two weeks ago, she wanted to do something different, explains Feld. “We wanted to do something for Ukraine. Something with ‘with love’. Since ‘with love’ is very similar to the word chicory, we spontaneously decided to sell chicory in church.”

Sense of togetherness

And with success. It is stormy all day at the chicory stall of the church. Many people immediately take a look at the church. “It gives a good feeling. A feeling of togetherness. Our working group is not only focused on faith and going to church on weekends. It is also about treating each other with respect.”

The money will be invested in the reception of refugees in the area. Tonight there will also be a benefit evening with music in the church. Including songs by Michael Jackson, Black Eyed Peas and Stef Bos.
