Cher didn’t want Elijah Blue Allman to have sole control of his late father’s inheritance.
Cher wanted to use a legal guardianship to prevent her son, Elijah Blue Allman, from having sole control of the assets inherited from his late father Gregg Allman. She explained the need for this measure by saying that the 47-year-old’s financial resources would be at risk because he suffered from mental problems and had a penchant for drugs.
“He has a lot of support, he’s doing well.”
However, the 77-year-old’s request was rejected in Los Angeles Superior Court on January 29, The Guardian reports. Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui did not see an urgent need for guardianship at this time, but will consider it again at a hearing in March. Allman himself was there, his mother was only connected to the courtroom via a camera without taking part in the meeting with any comments.
Elijah Blue Allman’s lawyers were successful by first addressing his past problems but asserting that they were in the past. He has already been able to solve many of them – for example, he was able to reconcile with his wife. According to The Guardian, one of the lawyers said after the hearing: “We are thrilled that the court has recognized that he does not need temporary guardianship. He has a lot of support, he’s doing well.”
Allmann: bipolar and homeless?
Cher’s lawyers had tried to counter that decision during the meeting, saying that Allman’s support would come from people who told him what he wanted to hear and didn’t take the extent of his problems seriously enough. His current apparent sobriety and sanity would also be deceiving – he would also suffer from bipolar disorder and had recently been homeless.
At a previous hearing on January 5, Uzcategui announced that she would not establish a guardianship, but postponed the final decision to January 29 due to documents not being delivered on time.
Not the first drastic action on Cher’s part
As early as November 2022, Cher wanted her son to change his way of life. The musician has been living in a hotel room at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles since March 2023. Footage obtained by the Daily Mail showed Allman sitting in the lobby with disheveled hair and no shoes. Hotel employees also noticed Cher’s son. “Practically every morning and afternoon you could see Elijah on the sidewalk outside the hotel, either leaning against the wall or sitting on the sidewalk smoking,” said one of the employees. On September 16th, Elijah Blue Allman is said to have fainted in front of the hotel: “He came out with a cigarette and when he finished it, he was unconscious,” one of the employees continues. After his collapse, he was escorted out of the Chateau Marmont by police. Allman was most recently in rehab in Pasadina, California. You can read more about this here.
According to their own statements, Cher’s children started using intoxicants at the age of eleven and have repeatedly put themselves and those around them in an awkward position ever since.
