Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku apologizes to fans

Romelu Lukaku recently caused a stir with spicy statements about his dissatisfaction at Chelsea. What followed was a suspension. Now all those involved have allegedly made up again.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has apologized for his behavior over the past few days and weeks in an interview and a video message on his club’s own TV channel.

“I would like to apologize to the fans for the anger I caused. You know how I have been associated with this club since I was a teenager. I understand that you are upset,” said the Belgian star striker.

“It is up to me to regain your trust”

Lukaku had said in an interview with the Italian branch of Sky Sports, which was recorded a few weeks ago but first aired last Thursday, that he was dissatisfied with his role at the club and would like to return to Inter Milan in the near future would.

Lukaku only moved to Stamford Bridge last summer. In the interview, the 28-year-old complained about too little time on the job, indirectly criticizing coach Thomas Tuchel. He then suspended Lukaku for the important league game last Sunday against Liverpool (click here for the match report).

“It’s up to me to regain your trust. I will give everything on the training ground and try to win games with the team,” Lukaku continued in the video message. “I also apologize to my coach and my team. It was not the right moment. Now I want to look ahead and win football games.”

After the suspension by Tuchel, rumors surfaced that Lukaku could leave the Londoners this winter. Both player and club have however, their differences resolved, so that the Belgian attacker will be back in the squad for the League Cup game against Tottenham on Wednesday.
