Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has cited the lack of willingness to cooperate as the main reason for the split from coach Thomas Tuchel.
“Our vision for the club was to find a manager who really wanted to work with us. You have to tear down a lot of walls at Chelsea,” said the US entrepreneur at a panel discussion in New York.
“No one is right or wrong. But we didn’t have a common vision for the future. It wasn’t about Zagreb, it was about the shared vision of what Chelsea should look like one day.”
Tuchel was surprisingly dismissed last week after a 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. The 49-year-old had been Chelsea coach since the end of January 2021 and led the team to victory in the premier class.
US billionaire Boehly took over the club with other business partners in May. Sporting reasons were apparently not the main reason for the separation from Tuchel.
“It wasn’t a decision based on a single loss. It was a decision for the right vision of the club,” said 48-year-old Boehly. The club must “run like a well-oiled machine”.
