Chelsea FC: Frank Lampard before returning as coach – solution by the end of the season

In England, just like in the Bundesliga, there seems to be a number of coaches who keep coming back to a job. No matter how bad things went in her coaching career. Incomprehensible.

Lampard has only had three notable coaching jobs: Derby, where he’s been quite successful, Chelsea, where you could say the step was too early, and Everton, where he just didn’t do a good job: so not really comparable to Dt. with people like Labbadi, Gisdol, Weinzierl and co., but of course Lampard is a catastrophic solution.

My first thought was that it was a 1a solution, especially if you hired him as an interim coach.
First of all I have to say that I don’t think he’s a bad coach. He did a good job at Chelsea in the first season and also gave the team a significant upswing in terms of play. I find it understandable that there can be a crack quickly and that as a young coach you don’t know how to deal with it. Especially as a club legend and beacon of hope, there is even greater pressure on you at a moment like this. The fact that Tuchel won the CL in the same season can also be a sign that the foundation he left behind wasn’t too bad.
He was also a very strategic player, so conveying these ideas as a coach is something different and maybe just needs a bit of experience.

In the current situation, it’s really only about giving the club a short-term boost. Every Chelsea player should look up to and respect someone like Lampard.
That alone can do a lot for the end of the season, especially since, as I said, I don’t think he’s untalented tactically.

The rest is now pure speculation:
If you have agreed with Nagelsmann on a commitment in the summer, there would be many reasons to wait until then and work with an interim coach.
1. Bavaria is now reluctant to let Nagelsmann move to a direct competitor in the CL.
2. Chelsea saves transfer negotiations with Bayern.
3. Nagelsmann does not have to negotiate with Bayern about a premature termination of the contract, which would only be disadvantageous for him. He collects his full salary up to the summer and then a fixed severance pay, while from the summer he is paid by Chelsea at the same time and collects twice, so to speak.
4. Nagelsmann can take a break until the summer, which he can certainly use to classify what is happening and possibly also think about his own mistakes, which even Chelsea can benefit from.

In that case, Lampard would really be perfect and he could also make himself more interesting for other clubs. If nothing is certain with Nagelsmann, you can reorient yourself in the summer without losing face or, if successful, easily extend it with Lampard.
