London (AP) – The English Premier League club FC Chelsea wants to pay compensation to four former youth players who were victims of racist insults in the football club in the 1990s.
As several British media reported unanimously, the Champions League winner settled out of court with the four plaintiffs. According to information from the BBC and “The Athletic”, those affected each receive a sum in the six-digit range.
The former Chelsea youth players said they were insulted and bullied by two of the club’s coaches at the time in the 1990s. A trial was originally scheduled for March, in which around 60 witnesses were to be heard over several weeks. The planned hearing before the High Court in London will no longer take place after the agreement has now been reached. It was not initially known which former players were involved.
