Chelsea brings goalkeeper talent Gabriel Slonina: Chicago confirms record sum

18 year old keeper

A few hours after signing Carney Chukwuemeka (18), Chelsea confirmed the transfer of the next top talent. The “Blues” presented 18-year-old goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina, who comes from Chicago Fire, on Tuesday evening. The press release from the MLS club spoke of an internal record fee, according to Journalist Tom Bogert is up to 15 million US dollars. The base fee is reportedly $10 million.

Slonina will remain in Chicago on loan until the end of the MLS season, before joining Chelsea in the winter. In London, the keeper, who was featured in Transfermarkt’s talent calendar in 2021, will receive a contract until 2028.

“We are very proud and happy that Gaga has reached this milestone in his career,” said Chicago athletic director Georg Heitz. “Since joining the club, Gaga has embodied what it means to be a Chicago Fire player. In addition to his incredible talent, he is mature beyond his age, extremely hardworking and a fantastic teammate. Gaga is a role model for many young aspiring footballers in Chicago and this transfer shows that a player can progress from our academy to the first team before joining one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

An upcoming transfer to Europe had already been indicated in the spring, but not to Chelsea. For a long time, Real Madrid was the favorite, and an agreement was even reported in June. Instead, the “Blues” now win the race for the keeper, who is the most valuable goalkeeper in his age group with a market value of 3 million euros (to the statistics).
