No winner in the duel between the lame big clubs: Chelsea FC and Jürgen Klopps FC Liverpool parted ways on Tuesday evening with a tired 0-0 draw and are still chasing their claims. As a guest at London’s Stamford Bridge, defeated Liverpool at least kept their competitors at bay – but the interesting table regions remain a long way off for both teams.
Liverpool (43 points) are eighth in the Premier League, while Chelsea (39) remain eleventh. The trio of Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United (50 each) are currently battling for third and fourth place in the Champions League and are already seven points ahead of Liverpool. And Brighton and Hove Albion (46) is even better in the race than the Reds of team manager Klopp: The outsider won 2-0 (1-0) at AFC Bournemouth in the evening and is sixth.
Meanwhile, goalless clashes between Chelsea and Liverpool are becoming a habit. For the fourth time in a row, both teams drew 0-0 in all competitions – and in regulation time.
Chelsea on the trigger from the start
Chelsea were much closer to winning the first game after parting ways with team manager Graham Potter. Julian Nagelsmann, who was recently dismissed from Bayern Munich, is said to be one of the successor candidates, and the Blues started strong under interim coach Bruno Saltor. The German national player Kai Havertz was involved in dangerous scenes again and again, a goal by Reece James (24th) did not count due to a narrow offside position.
Liverpool looked stricken three days after the 4-1 defeat at champions Manchester City, but also became more dangerous just before half-time. However, the goal then hit Chelsea again: the ball jumped into the net from Havertz’s arm, and the goal was not awarded again.
