PowNed’s reporters are known for being tantalizing, controversial and provocative, but when they’re on the other side of the camera, little of that bravura remains. “Cringe!“
They’ve been pretty cliché for a while: the videos in which PowNed reporters go to demonstrations, purely to annoy the people who protest. It’s never about the content, only the form. The ultimate goal? That someone slips out of their shoes, pulls the windshield off the microphone, and that they can then speak of shame.
Objective Tom
PowNed reporter Tom Olthof gets a taste of his own medicine during some protest. There he becomes during the making of its own item confronted with another brutal reporter, but from a left-wing activist platform.
It soon turns out that Tom has no idea what the protest is actually about, despite reporting on it. “Yes, we wonder that too. We are going in today as objective journalists. We let ourselves be told what is happening here.”
Has he dug into the requirements? “Yes, I kind of know what’s going on, yes.”
What exactly? He can’t explain that.
“Ahhh”
Then Tom begins to complain about his interviewer’s objectivity. “You are a bit biased in how you interview me, but you should also be objective. Your cameraman is laughing and just shaking very hard no.”
The reporter: “Ahhhwww, ahhwww. That is of course you fireeh, objectivity?”
Tom: “Guys, I think it was nice again.”
The reporter: “Oh, now PowNews is going to run away? Are we going to do an Ella Vogelaartje?”
Not engrossed
Tom looks pretty good. He clearly hadn’t expected anyone to be there to give him a hard time. “Now I can’t even get out of my words myself!”
When he gets a substantive question, Tom doesn’t give a home: “No, dude, no idea. I’m not going to say anything about it if I don’t understand it.”
The reporter: “You think you’re objective, but you don’t know what it’s about at all. You didn’t even spend five minutes looking up what the main requirements are.”
Dennis responds
The video in which Tom is confronted is called ‘PowNed exposed: Nep Dennis falls silent’, referring to the former PowNed star Dennis Schouten.
Dennis has also seen the video and tweets: “What a degradation at PowNed. The broadcaster that took every opportunity in 2010 to make a different sound heard within the NPO is now here. A real life soap with Olcay and Ruud de Wild and this reporter who has no good answer to anything…”
Tom also gets a beating in the various reaction fields. Many people call the images uncomfortable. “I almost crawled up my own ass because of the ringwonderful video!”
And Mounim: “Does PowNed get the PowNed treatment? Strange times.”
