Check out the free PS games for January

For the month of January there are again three free PlayStation games for Plus subscribers. TECHBOOK has checked what the new titles are good for.

As has often happened in recent months, the free PlayStation games were also leaked for January. The leak has always proven to be reliable over the past few months, so it’s pretty safe to assume that will be the case this time as well. Otherwise, Sony is likely to officially confirm the titles around December 28th. Accordingly, there are again three games for PlayStation Plus subscribers. So if you have a PS Plus subscription, you can download the titles for free. Also in December, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Biomutant, and Divine Knockout were free. The titles now disappear directly at the turn of the month.

Fallout 76 (PS4)

Despite a rocky start, which the game owed in 2018 mainly to the fact that it was not yet fully developed when it was published, “Fallout 76” has many fans. The online game in a post-apocalyptic setting belongs to the well-known series of the same name, but is not a direct continuation of its predecessors. 25 years after a devastating nuclear disaster, the survivors of Bunker Vault 76 venture back into the countryside. As a player, you then have to ensure the supply and resettle the wasteland.

Because of the bad start mentioned, the game currently only has a meta score of 53. Users even penalize the Bethesda title with only 2.8. But if you look at the more recent ratings, they are all well above these values. This is probably mainly due to the fact that a lot has happened since the 2018 release and many functions have been added later. Normally Fallout 76 costs 39.99 in the PlayStation Shop.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (PS4 and PS5)

With “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” PS Plus subscribers can look forward to another exciting free game in January. Electronic Arts’ action-adventure game is set five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III and the rise of the Empire. Former Jedi padawan Cal now works in secret as a scrap collector. However, his cover is blown and he is forced to flee from the Empire.

With a metascore of 79 and a similar user rating of 7.6, critics and players agree on the positive side. Many Many praise the game’s storyline as fitting well with canon. Partly it is criticized that the mechanics are a bit uncreative and based on other games. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order actually costs 49.99 euros. As part of PlayStation Plus, these costs will be eliminated in January.

Axiom Verge 2 (PS4 and PS5)

The side-scroller action game is the sequel to the surprisingly successful “Axiom Verge”. As millionaire Indra, you stumble into a parallel universe in the Arctic populated by deadly machine beings. With the help of new skills, it is now a question of finding a way back.

Critics’ and players’ ratings differ somewhat for this title. While the former at least awarded a good meta score of 75 and praised the indie developer’s courage to break new ground, the players were a little less enthusiastic or clearly divided. While many praise the story and game design, many also say that “Axiom Verge 2” can’t hold a candle to its predecessor. As part of the PlayStation Plus January campaign, the usual 17.99 euros for the title will no longer apply.
