Despite subsidies, electromobility has not yet become established worldwide. In addition to the often lacking infrastructure and limited range, it is also a question of price whether you choose a new car with a conventional drive or an electric car. Elon Musk’s Tesla Group is currently offering the Model 3 for just over 38,000 euros after deducting the subsidy. But competitors have upgraded, with some of them offering cheaper electric vehicles. The following ranking provides information and presents the cheapest alternatives with comparable basic equipment to the Model 3. The status is August 9th, 2023.
14th place: The ranking
The basic model from Tesla, the Model 3, is available for a whopping 38,490 euros after deduction of the subsidy. It is by no means the cheapest electric car, because the established manufacturers are moving forward with the production of their electric cars. This ranking presents the cheapest alternatives with comparable basic equipment to the Model 3. The status is August 9th, 2023.

13th place: Mazda MX-30
At the beginning of the ranking is the Mazda MX-30, which comes with a starting price of 35,990 euros. After deducting the funding bonus, the price is reduced to 29,240 euros. The model is equipped with a drive power of 107 kW (145 hp) and a range of around 200 kilometers.

12th place: BYD Dolphin
The BYD Dolphin is in 12th place, also with a starting price of 35,990 euros. After funding, the final price is 29,240 euros. In contrast to the Mazda MX-30, the Dolphin offers a higher output of 150 kW (204 hp) and can impress with a range of 427 kilometers.

11th place: Nissan Leaf
The Nissan Leaf takes eleventh place in the ranking. With an output of at least 110 kW (150 hp) and a range of 270 kilometers, the four-door car starts at 35,900 euros. After applying the funding bonus, the price is reduced to 29,150 euros.

10th place: MG5 Electric
Tenth place in the ranking is occupied by the MG5 Electric, with an output of 125 kW (170 hp). Before the subsidy, the vehicle is available for 35,490 euros, but the price drops to 28,740 euros after the subsidy is applied. The top speed is 185 km/h and the maximum range is around 320 kilometers.

9th place: MG4 Electric
Another model from MG: In ninth place in the ranking is the Chinese newcomer MG4 Electric, which has already been sold more than 5,000 times in the first half of 2023, according to INSIDEEVs. With a starting price of 34,990 euros before government funding and a reduced price of 28,240 euros after funding, the MG4 Electric still makes it into the top ten. The model delivers an output of 130 kW (178 hp) and impresses with a range of up to 350 kilometers per charge.

8th place: Opel Corsa Electric
The combustion engine variant of the Opel Corsa is already a well-known example in the automotive world. The electric counterpart is available in a cheap version for 34,650 euros and takes eighth place. After claiming the state funding bonus, the price is reduced to 27,900 euros. Under the hood is a front-wheel drive with an output of 100 kW (136 hp). The range is up to 354 kilometers. In terms of speed, the Opel Corsa E can reach a top speed of 150 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds.

7th place: MG ZS EV
The MG ZS EV appears in seventh place. The base price before government funding is around 33,990 euros. The price information in the configurator can be confusing at first, as it already includes a manufacturer’s share of the funding of 2,677.50 euros and shows 31,312.50 euros. In fact, the effective purchase price after full funding is just over 27,000 euros. In terms of performance and range, it looks like this: The MG ZS EV reaches a top speed of 175 km/h and is powered by a 130 kW (178 hp) engine. The range is 320 kilometers.

6th place: Fiat 500e
The Fiat 500e is in sixth place in our ranking of the cheapest electric vehicles. In its cheapest configuration, the vehicle is available from 29,990 euros. With an engine output of 70 kW (95 hp) and a range of 190 kilometers, this model offers a balanced mix of performance and range. The combined electricity consumption is 13 kWh/100 km. After deducting the state funding bonus of 6,750 euros, the customer has a purchase price of 23,240 euros.

5th place: VW e-up!
The VW e-up! is in fifth place in our ranking of the most cost-effective electric vehicles. With a starting price of 29,995 euros, the model offers a range of around 260 kilometers. The electric motor produces 61 kW (83 hp). Thanks to the funding bonus of 6,750 euros, the effective purchase price for the customer is reduced to 23,245 euros.

4th place: Renault Twingo E-Tech
The Renault Twingo E-Tech is in fourth place in our ranking. The starting price is 28,000 euros with a range of 190 kilometers. A 60 kW (81 hp) electric motor works under the hood and the combined power consumption is 22 kWh/100 km. Thanks to the funding bonus of 6,750 euros, the purchase price is reduced to 21,250 euros.

2nd place: Elaris Dyo
The former “Finn” model now appears on the German market under the name Elaris Dyo. Originally from China, the electric car is offered in this country by Elaris for a starting price of 24,900 euros. With one charge, the compact electric vehicle has a range of around 180 kilometers and an output of 35 kW (48 hp). After taking into account the funding bonus of 6,750 euros, the price is 18,150 euros, which puts the Elaris Dyo in second place in our ranking.

The Dacia Spring claims the top position in our ranking with its affordable pricing and is the most cost-effective electric vehicle. The mini SUV is offered for a base price of 22,750 euros and offers a range of up to 230 kilometers and a peak output of 33 kW (44 hp).
