Unfavorable working hours, but cheap parking! Nurses, carers, police officers, firefighters, etc. will soon no longer have to take out a parking ticket early in the morning and late in the evening.
The CDU/SPD Senate has passed a comprehensive regulation for exemptions in parking zones. More shift workers will benefit from this in 2024 (exact start date still to be determined).
What falls under inconvenient duty or working hours?
►If the working hours for at least a fifth of the monthly work shifts begin between 10:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. – or end between 10:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.
Or when …
►regularly changing or regularly unplannable deployment and working times are planned at comparable unfavorable times. This includes services on weekends and public holidays or after an alarm.
“This is an important sign for everyone who keeps the city running, a sign of appreciation,” said Transport Senator Manja Schreiner (45, CDU). Her colleague, Health Senator Ina Cyborra (57, SPD): “If nurses or medical staff work at night when most of us are sleeping, they shouldn’t have to pay extra.”
The current regulation covers shorter periods of time (before 6 a.m. and after midnight) and is less consistent with standard shifts. They also impose different strictness on districts.
The exemptions can be applied for for one or two years and cost 40 or 60 euros.
Pay slips, collective agreements and allowance slips serve as proof. Up to 4,766 employees in the Berlin police could benefit, 1,200 in the fire department and 1,446 in the judiciary.
And who will be able to park even cheaper? Employees of public transport, BSR, energy suppliers, water companies, food suppliers, IT/telephone technology, delivery services for medicines, blood banks, laboratories, cash providers.
