Dayen Drenth is one of the people who revived the New Year’s dive in Hoogeveen. “We thought: we will organize another one if we can.”
She hopes that from today a new tradition will be born. “Every year we walk around Nijstad, about 5 kilometers, and then go into the water. Hopefully the weather will be good, so we’ll see,” she says with a positive mood.
Drenth does not dare to say in advance how many people will be waiting at exactly twelve o’clock. “I have received a lot of messages, so I assume there is a lot of interest.”
And why not? “This is really fun,” she agrees. “It’s completely free, everyone can come. With a large group it is of course absolutely beautiful.”
Afterwards, Drenth is perplexed about the size of the crowd that showed up for the New Year’s dive. Emotional: “I never expected this!”
