The artistic director of the Berlinale, Carlo Chatrian, was surprised by the plans for the federal cultural events in Berlin (KBB). He had previously spoken to the Minister of State for Culture about extending the contract.

The outgoing Artistic Director of the Berlinale, Carlo Chatrian, was surprised by the announced restructuring of the Berlinale by the Federal Cultural Events in Berlin (KBB) and its supervisory board chairman, Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth. He told the US magazine “Variety”.

According to this, he had a conversation with Roth in March about the possible extension of his contract as Artistic Director. “Only the structure of the management was open,” says Chatrian.

However, the announced plans have made him realize that there is no place for him in the new structure. Chatrian has since announced his retirement in 2024.
