Charlie Watts’ jazz recordings appear as a compilation

Charlie Watts was not only the drummer for the Rolling Stones, but also a gifted jazz musician. He used the time between Stones projects again and again to expand his own discography. Now a collection of these recordings called “Anthology” has been announced. It will be released on June 30th.

The album is a “loving retrospective” of Watts’ work, the description says. He knew almost all relevant jazz artists of his time, studied and loved their works. He always saw himself as an admirer of the greats of the genre, never as one of their equals, as can also be read.

The oldest recordings on the disc date from 1986, when Charlie Watts released his first solo project with the Charlie Watts Orchestra, BMG wrote in a press release. Also included are tracks from various albums by the Charlie Watts Quintet. To accompany the announcement, BMG also released a live recording of “Ain’t Nobody Minding Your Store” from 1978.
