M83 have released five new songs. Together with “Oceans Niagara”, which was released on January 10th, they form the first part of the announced album FANTASY on May 17th. It will be the ninth studio album by the band around multi-instrumentalist Anthony Gonzalez.
“I wanted this album to be very impactful live,” Gonzalez said of the new record. After DSVII and the soundtrack KNIFE + HEART, which were released in 2019, the new album is supposed to tie in musically with BEFORE THE DAWN HEALS US from 2005 through the guitars and synths. “I wanted to be more present lyrically and vocally, although it was a bit daunting at first,” he added on the band’s website. “I thought if I can do that, the album will be more personal than the previous ones.”
A limited edition of M83’s HURRY UP, WE’RE DREAMING was released last year to celebrate the 10th birthday of the hit 2011 full-length. In Germany, the album entered the charts for the first time in 2022.
