Last weekend in Vienna there was a rush to an event by the streetwear brand Rare Humans, which gave away clothing to its fans.
Up to 1,500 young people were out and about for the pop-up event in Vienna’s Esterhazygasse, Rare Humans Managing Director Tobias Plankensteiner told the Austrian newspaper Kurier. Many of the fans gathered in front of the location and in the end only 80 fans were allowed in, who then had the chance to grab pieces from the new “Young & Wild” collection. In keeping with the title of the collection, videos on social networks show how this group stormed into the premises and – like a spatial reference – ate as many pieces as possible from the clothes rails.
The event was actually planned differently. At 1 p.m. on Saturday, the brand wanted to post four of the event’s locations on its Instagram story in a bid to mislead some fans. However, eyewitnesses and word of mouth led to a rush to the right location before 1 p.m. Two young people were also injured, Kurier reports. Rescue workers and the police then arrived, who ended the meeting.
Rare Humans thanked its “rapidly growing” community for coming to the event and supporting the brand in an Instagram post on Tuesday. In the future, the security staff will be strengthened and more clothes will be brought in, the post says.
