Chaos at Schiphol: readers change their holiday plans | To travel

The situation at Schiphol is keeping people busy! The mailbox was filled with experience stories.

Many readers are outraged by the turn of events. For example, Annie Rijken writes that she experienced “a lot of misery” last week. “Hours in line, no staff in sight and incorrect information about the waiting time. At the Efteling, they estimate it even better.”

Most emails are about changed holiday plans. Rob Elk: “Normally we go to Asia in the summer for a round trip, now we make a trip by car to Austria, Italy and Switzerland and back via Germany.”

Gert van Dijk had planned a holiday to Canada. “But the long lines at Schiphol are a cause for concern. We have therefore opted for a car holiday through Poland and Slovakia.”

The Van Duijvenbode family remains positive. “We have suspended our holiday plans abroad. We stay in the Netherlands and leave by car. The Netherlands also has beautiful areas; it’s actually not that bad. It also saves a lot of money.”

To enjoy

For next month I have booked a trip to Finland to meet friends. I don’t want to be held back by the Schiphol chaos. If it doesn’t work, I won’t mourn, but will enjoy the Dutch summer.

rebook

We have rebooked our flight holiday to Lesvos in August to a holiday in Portugal at the end of December. We don’t dare to fly now. This summer, but with the car for a week to Germany.

Smoothly

In a short period of time we have left Schiphol twice: for a short city trip and for a longer holiday. Both times without problems at check-in, security check and passport control. When we return, our suitcases are already on the belt.

Cancelled

I live in Vienna and had booked a holiday in the Netherlands for August. Given my advanced age, I decided to cancel the holiday, because I don’t want to queue for hours at the airport. Not to mention the suitcase chaos.

wait

At the end of May we flew from Schiphol. Just before we left, we saw violent images of travelers queuing for hours. To our surprise, we were behind customs within an hour. In September we are going to Turkey. Just wait and see what it will be like then.
