The sight makes passengers frown – and outbursts of anger!
Anyone who has landed at BER Airport and is awaiting their luggage has to pass them: hundreds of abandoned suitcases. This sight causes many passengers to worry: Is my suitcase on the conveyor belt?
According to BZ information, many of the loading staff had already called in sick on Wednesday because of the heat. Sometimes even suitcases are said to have remained on the plane.
Around 300 suitcases are stranded at BER every day. Around 1000 pieces of luggage have to be stored and distributed.
According to an airport spokesman, it is mainly so-called rush luggage: “These are suitcases that do not arrive in Berlin at the same time as the passengers,” he says. Means they will be forwarded on another flight. Depending on the frequency on a route, this may not be the case until a day later.
Sometimes the luggage was not loaded due to a short transfer time or it was stuck at the departure airport.
