Chantal Janzen and Martijn Krabbé do not see the storm of criticism on their new balloon show Blow Up yet. The program was ridiculed yesterday in the TV hit Even Tot Hier.
Childlike TV shows were a big hit during the corona pandemic, when entire families were bored at home. Ruben Nicolai playing with Lego bricks? Viewing stats stunner. Winston Gerschtanowitz playing marbles with celebrities? Big hit. But the viewer soon got bored. Childish programs like Showcolade and Tik M Aan flopped mercilessly.
Childish shows
Despite everything, RTL 4 is still betting on this genre, but Ruben Nicolai’s Domino Challenge is currently a big flop and the new balloon show Blow Up by Chantal Janzen and Martijn Krabbé scores no more than reasonable. In terms of content, Blow Up gets a lot of criticism; the format of that show is paper thin according to critics.
TV expert Jordi Versteegden of De Telegraaf thinks Chantal should even watch out for image damage. She is put on childish shows quite often and that would not do her image any good.
Mocked in Even Till Here
Chantal and Martijn’s balloon show was mocked yesterday in the ratings hit Even Tot Hier, where 1.7 million people watched. After a rap by Arnold Karskens for his broadcaster Ongehoord Nederland, presenter Jeroen Woe remarks: “The only thing that is even more infantile on television is that balloon program.”
Colleague Niels van der Laan cynically: “Nahhh, no! No! That’s really nice, man!”
“That’s kids TV!”
Jeroen: “Is that fun?! I have to shut up too, because I’ve never seen it. I never watch that kid’s TV in the morning. Isn’t it in the morning?”
Niels: “No, it’s not in the morning! It’s prime time, for grown-ups! Yes! It is unbelievable! Then you first have balloons and then suddenly a dog! Or a cat, or a tiger, you can imagine it so crazy!”
Jeroen: “Well, I’ll check it out sometime.
Niels: “Yes, you don’t hear anyone complaining about that. It’s great TV!”
on the heel
Many more celebrities were ridiculed in the penultimate Even Tot Hier of the season.
Johan Derksen was mocked for his statements about the nitrogen crisis, Sander Lantinga for his ratings flop on SBS 6, Martien Meiland for his overkill on television, Gordon for his cocaine addiction and Rob Kamphues for sharing spicy videos.
