Chantal Janzen escapes TV disaster, balloon show remains stable

Against all odds, Chantal Janzen escapes an outright television disaster. Her ‘infantile’ balloon show Blow Up was not blown up by the RTL 4 viewer last night.

RTL 4 now only puts Chantal Janzen on infantile TV shows. After Chantal’s Beauty Camper and Chantal’s Pajama Party, she is now on the TV with Blow Up, the balloon show that she presents together with Martijn Krabbé. The first episode scored cautiously last week with 775 thousand viewers.

Chantal does not collapse

The format of Blow Up is so wafer-thin that critics anticipated a huge drop in ratings. TV connoisseur Jordi Versteegden even took into account an image blow for Chantal. “The image of Martijn and Chantal is at stake with this, I think, if this really becomes a megaflop during the second episode.”

Fortunately for Chantal and Martijn, this is not the case. Yesterday the second episode even scored slightly more viewers than the premiere episode: 792 thousand people (21% market share) watched it. The competition was therefore a lot milder, because there was competition from the Dutch national team last week.

What does Tina say?

Viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp, former channel boss of SBS 6, thinks that RTL 4 should be happy with this score. “Perhaps not all reviews are positive, the presenters are sometimes somewhat cynical in the broadcast, the viewing figures in the target group are excellent. No less than 30.6 percent market share in target group 20-54.”

Those are really sky-high viewing figures in the commercial target group, according to Tina. “After Even tot Hier en Ik Vertrek is the most viewed format of the week. The flag can be raised for EndemolShine, this will certainly lead to sales format to many other countries. And so an extra large cake for the team on Monday.”

Bed & Breakfast at #1

Bed & Breakfast attracted the highest prime time viewership. 1.2 million people watched that show (30% market share), much more than Chantal and Martijn had. Immediately afterwards, Tweede Hans reached 951 thousand viewers (24%.

The other most watched prime time titles were SBS 6′ Today Inside with 671 thousand viewers (18%), RTL 4’s Beau with 534 thousand viewers (15%) and NPO 2’s Oases in de Orient with 317 thousand viewers (8%).

Viewing figures

Programs that also did not make the top 15 include Shownieuws (475 thousand), Khalid and Sophie (449 thousand), Time for MAX (346 thousand) and Nieuwsuur (312 thousand).
