It is one of the main causes of the shortage in our labor market: women who do not want to work more than part-time immediately after graduating. “I think it’s nice that ‘status’ is gradually no longer considered the highest good,” says Chantal Janzen in her latest column in the &C.

Nice part-time

Chantal is now a TV star and you work very few hours. She really likes that and is disappointed that she didn’t start doing it sooner. “To be honest, I think if I had it to do over again, I would have worked a little less between the ages of 25 and 35. Then I would have found four days, or even part-time, quite a nice plan.”

She continues: “I do that now, except for a few weeks a year, and that is really nice. And looking back is not of much use to me, I am extremely happy and grateful for everything I was able to do and experience back then. But if you’re just starting out, think about what makes you happy. And don’t do that just once, but every year.”

‘Enjoy full time’

According to Chantal, women should think carefully about whether they want to work full-time. “That you always think carefully about whether you are still happy with what you do. And with the direction your career is taking. And whether you might want and be able to change something.”

She concludes: “At least this way you won’t find out at the age of fifty that you would have preferred to do something else all those years and you can enjoy your life more. That’s what we all want to do most: enjoy ourselves. Full-time.”
