Özcan Akyol is not at all impressed with how Chantal Janzen’s TV career is developing. He finds her current pajama show in particular a sad low point. “That just failed.”
Chantal Janzen is always credited with having what it takes to take over the title of TV queen, but her ratings are never really anything to write home about. Many of her recent titles have already been buried in the TV graveyard: from Chantal Comes Working to DIY and from Chantal’s Beauty Camper to &Chantal: nothing sticks.
Ozcan lashes out
The presenter is currently on the channel every Friday evening with her pajama program Chantals Pajama Party, but that too is disappointing with about 700,000 viewers, according to ratings expert Tina Nijkamp. She points out that RTL 4 is ‘easily used to millions of viewers’ on this evening with shows such as The Masked Singer and I Can See Your Voice.
Ozcan Akyol is not surprised. The opinion maker writes in his VARA guideletter column that he really thinks Chantal’s program is terribly bad. He thus responds to a letter from reader Wilma from Epe.
Bad program
This Wilma thinks that Chantal makes bad TV. “Pyjamaparty, which is presented by Chantal Janzen on RTL 4, gives me an uneasy feeling. The hyped atmosphere, the forced fun, the childish games, you feel everything is artificial. Why do so few channels succeed in making fun entertainment?”
Ozcan agrees. “I saw it once, it is a failed program. From what I understood, The voice of Holland should actually be broadcast at that time, but as you know there were a lot of dirty people working there who did all kinds of dirty things to girls.”
Humor and class
Chantal has been deployed as a Voice replacement. “So it is actually very sympathetic of Chantal Janzen to fill that gap. Which is true: entertainment in the Netherlands is currently of a poor level.”
He concludes: “There is shooting with hail and it is often very wrong. Maybe we just don’t have that much humor and class in this country.”
Fragment
Chantal herself looks very enthusiastic in her pajama show:
