Chantal and Martijn score nicely, Richard Groenendijk in viewership hell

The new balloon show Blow Up by Chantal Janzen and Martijn Krabbé has got off to a good start on RTL 4. At the same time, Richard Groenendijk’s SBS 6 show is burning away in the ratings hell.

Yesterday, on Friday evening, the Nations League match Belgium – Netherlands was by far the big winner in prime time with 1.8 million viewers (37%) on NPO 3. In contrast, only NPO 1 managed to get above the million mark: Bed & Breakfast scored 1.1 million viewers (23%) and Tweede Hans had 1 million (20%).

Blow Up is off to a good start

This also means that RTL 4 does not exceed the million mark with the new entertainment of Voice duo Chantal Janzen and Martijn Krabbé: Blow Up started with a nice 775 thousand viewers (17%). That is slightly above RTL 4’s evening average of last week, which was almost 17% market share.

What does viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp think? “Despite beautiful weather and the Dutch national team, Blow Up started well. Not a mega score and not beating Bed & Breakfast on NPO 1”, she says. But in the commercial target group: “Blow Up is the big audience winner in target group 20 to 54. 25.6 percent market share vs 12.2 for Bed & Breakfast.”

No cake for Richard

Does that mean cake for the makers of Blow Up? “RTL and EndemolShine will be very happy I think and will definitely order cake for the team”, Tina concludes.

Who doesn’t get a cake? Richard Groenendijk. It scores viewing figures that would make them cry even at HLF8. After 292, 247, 314 and 302 thousand viewers, the fifth episode of his SBS 6 show Think Inside The Box recorded only 199 thousand viewers (4%). This is what burning in the ratings hell looks like. “Week after week ouch,” Tina remarks.

VI saves SBS 6

Actually, SBS 6 is saved night after night by the men from Today Inside. Immediately after Richard’s debacle, that program still captivated a reasonable 560 thousand viewers (11%). That is considerably fewer than normal, but that will have to do with the fact that the VI target group is extra sensitive to football at the competitor.

In any case, VI managed to captivate more viewers than Beau, which also started at half past nine. 438,000 people (9%) watched it.

Viewing figures

Programs that also failed to make the top 15 include Shownieuws (443 thousand), Khalid and Sophie (408 thousand), Time for MAX (312 thousand) and Shownieuws Zomer Edition (213 thousand).
