Anyone who has ever changed the order of the programs on a television knows that sorting them with the remote control can drive you crazy. Fortunately, there are alternatives.
The sorting function for the programs on the television is often too complicated, poorly implemented or the whole thing simply takes forever with the fiddly remote control. It’s no wonder if someone stops, completely unnerved, the first time they try to sort the channel list on the TV.
PC program helps sort the TV channel list
The open source program Chansort promises to help, as it outsources the matter to the computer, where it can be sorted more easily. A large number of modern Smart TVs offer the option of saving channel lists on a USB stick. You can then open it on your PC or notebook, edit it and then bring it back to the television.
You can tell more or less quickly whether your smart TV supports exporting and importing channel lists by looking through the settings. If in doubt, the operating instructions will help.
Chansort can be downloaded for free on the developer platform Github download – simply by clicking on the zip file that is at the top under “Releases/Assets”. After downloading, the zip file just needs to be unpacked. Then “ChanSort.exe” can simply be started from the folder without installation.
It’s best to edit the existing list
Then go to “Open TV channel list” in the menu at the top and select the list saved by the television on the USB stick. If you are asked how you would like to edit the list, it is best to select “Edit existing list”.
You will then see the two-part program window with the “All channels” area and the “Sorted channels” area. The desired channels can simply be dragged into the latter area by holding down the left mouse button and sorted in the preferred order.

Can there also be a favorites list?
Depending on the television, in addition to the program list (“Pr”), one or more tabs with additional favorites lists (“Fav”) may also appear above the two areas, which can also be populated if necessary.
Once the sorting is complete, click on the floppy disk symbol at the top left to save the changes and lists – and the USB stick can be plugged into the television to import the channel list(s). If questions or problems arise, it’s worth it Chansort forum to visit on Github.
