Ajax has given Abdelhak Nouri’s dressing room chair a place in the stadium’s fan shop. Next month it will be five years since Nouri suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice match. The dressing room furniture that has been preserved since then was unveiled today by Nouri’s father and Edwin van der Sar.
Nouri suffered serious and permanent brain damage as a result of the cardiac arrest. In the years since the drama, Ajax and Nouri’s family had a bad relationship for a long time. This was largely due to the fact that no agreement was reached on compensation. In February Ajax announced that there is a settlement has come between the two parties.
With the unveiling, Ajax wants to emphasize that the bond with the Nouri family has been restored. The club has also made agreements about the prize for Talent of the Year within the club: it will be called the Abdelhak Nouri Trophy from next year. In addition, Nouri’s number 34 will never be worn by another player again, unless Ajax and the family want to make an exception.
