Bundesliga club VfL Bochum has strengthened its defensive department and signed Dominique Heintz on loan from 1. FC Union Berlin.
Heintz is leaving the capital club after just over seven months. The 28-year-old is moving to the league competitor for this season VfL Bochumas both clubs announced on Thursday (08/11/2022).
Heintz is hoping for minutes at VfL Bochum
“Dominique had the option at VfL at very short notice and he absolutely wanted to take this opportunity because he simply hoped to play more minutes there than with us,” said Oliver Ruhnert, Union’s managing director for professional football, according to the announcement.
Heintz had only switched from Freiburg to the Irons in January, but had not earned a regular place due to a corona infection and injury problems. After playing through in the DFB Cup in Chemnitz, he was not in the squad for the Bundesliga opener against Hertha BSC at the weekend.
VfL Managing Director Schindzielorz: “Fits the profile perfectly”
In Bochum, VfL managing director Sebastian Schindzielorz thinks highly of Heintz: “He will strengthen our central defence, as a left-footed player he fits exactly into the requirements profile: experienced at Bundesliga level, tall, robust, good at one-on-ones, a leader.”
Heintz comes from the youth department of 1. FC Kaiserslautern, he completed most of his 186 Bundesliga games for 1. FC Cologne and Freiburg.
