Marco Reus is one of the biggest identification figures at Borussia Dortmund. The offensive player has been playing in the Ruhr area since 2012. But the 34-year-old’s contract with BVB expires after the season. Now the former Gladbacher himself has commented on his future.
“Sport Bild” had already reported in October that Marco Reus was pursuing a clear plan to extend his contract with BVB, which expires at the end of June 2024. An end to his career is ruled out for the time being. Despite his open future, the 48-time German national player is relaxed about the next few months.
In a “Sport1” interview, the 34-year-old was asked about a contract extension. Reus replied that he had “not thought about it yet” and added: “I’m currently working on how we can be successful again in the second half of the season. In due course – like last year – we will sit down together and talk about it , how it goes on.”
Marco Reus: BVB is my club
A timely decision is therefore unlikely. “I’m very relaxed about it and don’t feel any pressure to tackle the issue at the moment. The top priority is to get back on the road to success in the next few weeks,” the former Gladbacher made clear, who didn’t completely rule out a change.
“I’m not a person who rules things out from the start. But I’m not talking to other clubs about my future either. Borussia Dortmund is my club and will be my first point of contact – when it’s time to tackle the topic of the future.” , Reus continued.
Marco Reus has been playing for the runner-up since 2012 and is therefore the longest-serving player in the Borussia Dortmund squad. With BVB he won the DFB Cup twice in his career. In the current season, the offensive player made 13 Bundesliga appearances in which he scored three goals.
