Chanel show brings in €9 million in revenue for Manchester

Earlier this month, French fashion house Chanel held its Métiers d’Art show in Manchester, bringing a celebrity-studded guest list and a sense of craftsmanship to the north of the UK.

According to Marketing Manchester, the event had a direct economic impact of around £8 million (approximately €9 million) on the city through the accommodation and expenses of the show’s 600 guests and staff, as well as other production-related expenses were strengthened.

Additionally, the marketing firm estimated domestic and international media coverage at over £100 million, which it said will help attract future investment and opportunities for Manchester-based companies.

“The Chanel event is one of the highlights of the global fashion calendar and the choice of Manchester as the venue has received international recognition,” said Manchester City Councilor Bev Craig. “For us, however, it has never been about the glitz and glamor – events like this help cementing Manchester’s reputation on the world stage, bringing both direct benefits through the money spent in our economy while they are here and indirect benefits by showcasing the city and helping to attract investment, jobs, “To attract visitors and attention, all of which create opportunities for Manchester’s residents and communities.”
